3 Fun Ways to Live in the Moment

For the past few weeks, I've encouraged you to explore the dreams you hold for your life and to really get clear on what you want to experience, achieve and learn in 2015. Now it's time to shift gears and come back to NOW. To be in this moment right here. Eckart Tolle teaches us to consider the present and past briefly, long enough to inform and give shape our present moment.

Living in the moment may not be as easy as it sounds. The trick is to live life and without being consumed by the past or the future, since either only exists in our minds. In this week's Sun-day design I want you to live in this moment and genuinely feel and experience life. You've done the work in planting the seeds for this year and now it's to communicate with your mind, body, and soul and allow that inner dialogue to guide you the rest of the way. The answers and direction you seek is within, being present in this moment is the only GPS system you need.  

Most of us are familiar with using meditation as one tool to practicing presence. It's a great way to help you clear the path to opening your heart and mind to what is happening inside and around you. It's important to learn your body's cues so that you can understand your body's needs, desire, and also the intuitive responses to questions you have about your life. You can also create presence through physical touch, movement and by having a deep connection with others.

Here are 3 more ways you can live in the moment.
  • Embrace someone you love by the head or shoulders and look into his or her eyes for 30 seconds. It will feel like forever and your instinct will guide you to laugh or look away. That's okay, the idea is for to feel and be present with the thoughts, feelings and bodily sensations that rise inside you.
  • Lay on the floor or ground. No pillows, no noise. Just listen to yourself breath. Feel your lungs expand and contract. As relaxing as this exercise may sound you will notice some areas in your body release tension and as some thought surface areas of your body will also tense. Focusing on the breath and your body is great way to get in touch with your feelings, they will come up.
  • Dance. Put on some music and tango. When you're dancing, feeling the beat , the melody, the music takes you over and you can only focus on the harmony and music. Now let's tango!
Setting aside 2-3 minutes a day to just feel. Listen to your body, watch your thoughts and see how your mind creates new possibilities. Leave a comment and share your practice for getting present below.

Think about how awesome it would be to respond to the question how are you doing with something other than the typical “I’ve been busy”, “Times are tough” or “I’m hanging in there”!  To truly offer a dialogue around how great you're feeling, the wonderful people in your life, and the perfect activities you're engaged in that move you forward on your purposeful path. I want you to changes the lens in which you look at your life so that you can in fact, change your life story. In this brief interactive coaching workshop learn how to connect and tell the story of your life from a place of power and purpose. Shift your mindset, language, and behavior to advance your life dreams. In the words of the great Buddha, and I'm sure so many others, "What you think you become." The BEST Holiday Gift

As I bid you Happy Christmahanakwanzika I want you to dole out one more gift to someone this year! This gift is priceless and only requires that you give a little bit of your time and a dash of your heart. This season I want you to give one person your undivided attention. The best holiday gifts in the world doesn't supersede the love and connection someone can experience just by spending time with you. YOU are an inspiration, a beacon of light. Your story, your experience and life goals will move this person, and this person wants to share his or her heart and life story, and in turn move you too. In this week's Sun-day design I want you to give one hour of your time to someone you rarely associate with. This person may be a colleague or fair-weather friend whom you've given little time or energy to. Offer this person one hour, your ear, and your heart and watch this person blossom right before your eyes.  
As you share your experience, dreams, and life story with the person you bestow this one hour gift, be sure to allow this person to share his or her story in turn. And for once, really listen. Suspend judgment, quell any urges to fix or make suggestions, and put away the phone to avoid any distractions. Listen with your heart and your mind. As you spend this one precious hour together tell this person:
  • Three real things you want to do, achieve or experience next year. This can include career goals and aspirations to adventures on your bucket list. The simple act of putting out in the world the things you desire can create opportunities you didn't even know we're accessible.
  • Two new things you've learned this year. This can be a new skill you've gained or you can share mistakes you've made and the lessons you've learned. This level of sharing can create a deeper connection and build a greater level of trust with this person.  
  • One thing your heart still desires. Whether you're looking for love, a new home, or more money in the coming year share something you are truly passionate about. When you talk about your passion you light up and that's fun for others to see and be around.
In just a single hour you can give more love and foster more connection than you've offered the recipient of your gift all year, making this indeed a very happy holiday.  Cheers!

Manifest Some Magic!

The Design Your Year event took place yesterday and I just have to thank the openhearted Life Designers who attended. We shared, we laughed, and we tested our theories about life and hopefully left with a bag filled with magic, pixie dust and certainly a new view on fairy tales. The Design Your Year scholarship recipient was unable to attend and I trust the magic we created that day serendipitously extends into her life as she pursues her goals for next year. I'll continue to share more about what I learned from the magnificent Life Designers and what I believe they gained from this experience too. 
In this week's Sun-day design I'd like you to begin - or if you were at the Design Your Year event - continue to manifest some magic into your life. The formula is simple. Clear the path for what seems improbable just by establishing clear intent for what you desire and doing the work day by day to achieve it. For example, the magic formula to loosing weight is making choices day-by-day that reflect the food and fitness habits that will serve your goal. The magic formula for getting a new job, is being your best self in day-to-day interactions, polishing off that resume, and continuing to build your technical and professional skills so that when opportunity knocks, you're not still getting dressed! The magic part comes from having faith that the love love and energy you put into your dream or desire will come back reaping exponential benefits.

As you attract new miracles in your life this week I will offer you one of my favorites quotes about magic:

OOPS, I did It again!

The Design Your Year Event is this Saturday, December 13th and it's a special event where you tap into your inner power to create, navigate, shift and design the life you desire. Even I learn from this event and want to share a great story on how my coaching process works for me in my life. My work is based on trusting the human experience is to learn from your life lessons and know that if you don't evolve from them they will continue to harass you. 
I know that just as you master each lesson and advance to the next level of your life you will find the next lesson patiently waiting your arrival. Well, even with all my "knowing" one of my lessons kicked me in this shin last week! My Superwoman trait had been soaring across the globe of my life. I finally handcuffed her with love, grace and a calendar of blocked R&R dates! I'm shifting my yes I'll do it, to no thank yous and not right nows. In this week's Sun-day design, I want you to join me to reign in the personality trait that betrays you every time, keeping you in a loop of  dismay and dissatisfaction. 

Your personality traits are your strengths, and when we over use them they become weaknesses. My Superwoman trait leads the chatter in my head that says "You can do all, be all, nothing can stop you!" This personality trait of mine seems charming if not admirable, and after some initial success, it quickly wreak havoc in my life. Oh, I'll get one or two wins in, but that's the hook. This week I want you to unhinge yourself too. Here are three steps you can take to finally figure out the lesson and move on:
  1. Identify the affirmative suggestion you've heard and yet ignored. This is a message that lingers in your head and your heart despite your efforts to silence it. For me it was Paster Rob Bell's talk at Oprah's Live Your Life Weekend. His message was sometimes you have to say no to the good stuff so you can say yes to the great. I had been saying yes to some good stuff, really interesting projects which was my Superwoman's hook, pilfering time away from my great stuff. 
  2. Find the thing on your to-do list that's been carried over week after week. My guess is that action item is directly related to one of your life dreams. Face it, if it were easy and comfortable we would have checked it off weeks ago. Let the magnet of discomfort be the GPS to your dreams. For me I kept saying yes the good stuff knowing it was taking me away from this one BIG thing. 
  3. Challenge your reason why. Figure out why don't you have enough time, money, intellect, resources, etc., to do the very thing you say you want to do in step 2. For me I decided I had to stay in a work environment that was no longer supporting my dreams. Let go of the theory that the good is good enough and demand more for yourself. Watch awesome new opprotunities appear. 
Those lessons serve your life and help you maintain your integrity and stay on track toward your dreams. The move you move away from your path the louder the lesson calls out to you. Guilty, now guilt free!
