Ever have a week where you spend all your time and energy on things that just completely drain you? That leaves you feeling dubious of your talent, perplexed over your career direction, or stressed with home and work life commitments that leaves you narrowly getting 4 hours sleep. If the answer is yes then it's time to change things. Remember it’s your right - not a privilege - to live a rich, fulfilling life. A life where you feel strong, valued, thriving, and achieving more. Or what I call a life in 3D! The one who can create and essentially give birth to THAT life is you. The "extra" time to work on your body, save more money, cook healthier meals, or expand your career doesn’t just appear. You have to use your magic to create that time. That means prioritizing your to-do list so that you spend time doing the things that are important or most meaningful to you and say no to the people, things and activities that don’t nourish or help you move closer your dreams. Finding the time to do even the smallest things you enjoy in life is key. I make time in the morning to list to my favorite music. I spend 8-10 hours furthering my practice. I make time on the weekends to do something fun with my son - because my dream is that when he grows up he has memories of a loving and fun mom, not just of me fussing for him to clean his room. Giving birth to the life you want takes time and thoughtful planning. As this next week begins I want you to purposefully choose what you want to give birth to. Similar into the joy a parent feels giving birth or at the adoption of a child, think about what it takes for you to give birth to your dreams, your hopes and aspirations. Or simply self-care. Sure it takes time, but what else? Passion, commitment, strength? What’s your birth plan? This blog is dedicated to three beautiful babies who came into the world this week – Noah, Cole, and Amaya. Their arrival inspires and reminds us all that we are always giving birth to energy in what and whom we love. Spring is officially here and it’s the perfect time to get rid of things that weigh you down or you no longer need. I just know there's something huge that you’ve been meaning to do or discard but have been dragging your feet on it. Maybe you’ve put off updating your resume ignoring you’re desire for a new job or you've stopped investing in the savings account you no longer check because you simply haven’t been, well saving. It’s time to figure out what's making you feel heavy so you can you can shift that energy to light and free. Just as you probably clean your home or purge you closets for the spring season you should also do some spring-cleaning in the areas of your life you’ve overlooked. Some of you may know exactly what you’ve been putting off so you can just get to it. Some of you may not be sure what's weighing you down here’s what you can do to figure it out. Ask yourself what is the one thing on your to-do list that you’ve put off all winter – because it was too cold, too hard, or maybe it was just too scary, and so it was easier to avoid it. Name key areas of your life (finances, love, relationships, career, spirituality, community) aloud and look for visceral cues in your body. Look for when you mention a specific area of life if there is a reaction in your body. Everyone's body will communicate using different language. Your heart may race, your chest tighten, or you may experience shortness of breath or that annoying nervous tick on your eye. Once you’ve figured which area of your life can use some sprucing up, spring-cleaning is pretty fun and easy to do. First, create or update your DREAM for the area of life that feels most troublesome. Next take 15 minutes to reflect on and DISCOVER reasons why your current reality doesn’t meet expectations for your dream. Tell the truth about why things are the way they are. This is the heart of the Design You Coaching approach :) DESIGN new commitments to hold yourself accountable for taking steps each day to move toward your vision. The thing you’ve been avoiding really weighs you down making you feel sad, disappointed, and stressed. Remember you have the tools and power to change all that. Now it’s time to crank up the music, and start that spring-cleaning! If you’re anything like me, you’re focused on getting everything done and find your days hectic, filled with commitments and responsibilities. Whether you’re parenting solo, living single, and married with kids, today’s Superwoman finds herself carrying a heavy load at work and at home. You get things done despite being tired, over extended, and resource constrained. You believe in getting things done at any cost. Online shopping at 11pm, workout at 5am, office meeting at 12pm – when you should be eating lunch, managing the kids’ play-date via text at 4pm, take out dinner at 8pm…oh, there are the groceries you purchased which are not rotting in the fridge, but who has time to cook?! Then repeat the cycle again. If your schedule sounds anything like this then you too may be a Superwoman in need of rehab or at least a little reprieve. Here are 3 things you can do to recharge your Superwoman powers:
3. Remember it’s your design. Revisit your dreams, goals, and passions to remind yourself of what’s important. You don’t need to do it everything, you want to do what matters most. Invest in the activities that make you feel alive, healthy and vibrant. Create time for things you love and for people you love. The best way to soar in life is to of take care of your mind and body, and of course your to-do list too! |
