Love Your Climb

I spent the week in the Adirondacks with the hopes of reminding my son, his friend, and me to slow down our hectic lives and smell the roses. To unplug FB and plug into nature. On our last day there we woke up at 5 am to climb the highest mountain nearby and watch the sunrise. The hike at dawn was fun, focused, and fast-paced as our hearts and minds were set on reaching the top before sunrise. 

No words can describe this miracle that we rarely see and take for granted everyday. The miracle I'm referring to is not just the sun rising, it's the climb itself. You may not appreciative the climbs in your life. As much as you're focused on realizing your dreams it's important to know your climb has purpose. That climb builds your strength and resiliency as the climb tends to be steep, meandering, and long. 

In this week's Sun-day design I want you to appreciate the climb you take to watch the sun rise in your life. You can prepare for your climb in 3 simple steps.
  1. Ask for guidance. Before we started our trek we asked the local experts to direct us to the highest mountain peak that offered the best view to watch the sun rise. Remember, as much as you know where you headed there are people in your life that can advise you on the best path to take. 
  2. Create a map. We highlighted our path on a physical map because we knew taking the wrong path could delay our journey causing us to miss our goal, even a few minutes off course could mean we'd miss watching the sun rise. You want to create a course map for the area of life you're going after. That map will keep you on track when the inevitable delays and distractions occur.
  3. Breathe deeply. As we neared the top the mouton the became more exhausting. We kept a great pace, breathing through the burn in our legs and mist on our foreheads. Combat your anxiety with the cleansing power of your breathe. Wash out your fears and just know that the closer you get to your goal the gremlins - your uncertainty, doubts, and (disabling) personality traits will creep up. 

Ready yourself for your next climb, all you need is a map, water bottle, and supportive friends close by.
